Field Notes / Vol. 2
From paper flowers to marbled editions of Austen, some delightful things that caught my eye this week.
Potted Paper Sweet Peas
These potted paper sweet peas will last a lifetime and never need a drop of water. I love the playful nature of paper flowers, and this one has such a striking, sculptural quality—just look at those curled tendrils! Explore all the maker’s creations here.
Polo Ralph Lauren for Oak Bluffs
We’re hoping to take Gabe to Oak Bluffs next summer (we have friends that go every August and my husband is eager to attend the film festival), so I was delighted to see Ralph Lauren’s new collection inspired by the historic Martha’s Vineyard town. The collection is Polo’s second collaboration with Spelman and Morehouse Colleges and celebrates Oak Bluffs’ history as a cherished haven for Black communities. From patchwork jackets to preppy collegiate cardigans, it’s no surprise things are selling out fast. They produced an excellent short film about the history of Oak Bluffs here.
Haws Watering Cans
I’ve always admired Haws watering cans, but their latest color palette has me completely hooked. Wentworth now carries the fab apple green above, while Terrain offers a truly superb lilac. Back in our North Carolina garden I was forever misplacing my watering can—these vivid hues are as practical as they are chic.
Pride & Prejudice: Collector’s Edition
This upcoming edition of the Austen classic is a must-have for any Lizzy Bennett fan. The cloth-bound, two-volume set includes replicas of the characters' letters in beautiful calligraphy along with imagined souvenirs, like an invitation to the Netherfield ball. John Derian even made decoupage trays of some of the letters.
Porta Tote Bag
The oversized canvas tote of my stripe-obsessed dreams. You don’t need a Birkin—buy this for $60 and take a nice vacation (or two) instead.
Wicker Armchair
Our apartment is packed to the gills and this chair is why I need a country house. How am I to resist the handsome handwoven rattan and delicious raspberry plaid cushion…? Sorry Simon, I simply don’t think I can.
Liberty Floral Jewelry Box
I haven’t been able to get this jewelry box out of my head. The world of fine jewelry can sometimes feel a bit stuffy, but this beauty is anything but. The crisp cotton Liberty floral gives it such an easy, charming feel—just the thing for tucking away your most precious gems.
Sezane’s Pretty Patterns
Antique textile enthusiasts will appreciate Sezane’s new collection, which features this fantastic floral stripe (also available on a dress). I think they raided the Laura Ashley archives of my childhood and I’m thrilled about it. And yes, I’m fully on board with the striped pants, too.
Ivy Napkins
British brand Summerill & Bishop make the most divine table linens and this ivy pattern is no exception. They’re an investment, but can you put a price on living out your English country house dreams? Did I mention there is a matching tablecloth? My apologies in advance to your wallet.
Emily Mitchell Ceramic Vases
I stumbled across the work of Norwich-based ceramicist Emily Mitchell recently and immediately added it to my wish list. The hand-built pieces are inspired by 17th-century English lacework motifs and are stunning yet still playful (the perfect balance, if you ask me).
Thanks for being here beautiful people.
Each of these finds is better than the next. Love them all!!
Love these so much!
